Overview of Minor Cannabinoids Terpenes and Potential Uses

On July 23, 2024, the Association of Cannabinoid Specialists was proud to invite ACS President and Founder Jordan Tishler, MD back to the podium as he presented on an Overview of Minor Cannabinoids, Terpenes, and Potential Uses.

Minor Cannabinoids

This discussion dove deep into the science and what we know about minor cannabinoids, such as CBG, CBC, Delta-8 THC, and more. Our audience even brought up CBT being an additive in a product - and Dr. Tishler's puzzlement said it all.  We just don't know much about these minor cannabinoids, and we certainly don't know about all of them!

All of the data presented in Dr. Tishler's slides were from pre-clinical studies. There are no adequate clinical trials yet. As he notes, we strongly discourage the application of these compounds to Humans until such studies are completed.

Minor Cannabinoids

The fact that CBT - and other compounds - are being added to products for human consumption when there is so little data about them should be concerning at the very least.

Dr Tishler goes on to discuss what science is available on these compounds, and in the presentation lists a number of studies on each compound, and whether they based on human data or are a key study.  To easily access the science, watch our Youtube recording of the presentation and pause the screen for the study information!

Terpenes

Terpenes are aroma chemicals from plants that are simples hydrocarbons. Terpenoids are modified terpenes with any number of substituted functional groups at any point in the carbon structure.

As Dr. Tishler discussses, there are hundreds of terpenoids in plants.  Cannabis has many present, including linalool, eucalyptol, borneol, limonene, myrcene, and more.  Some of these may have therapeutic implications.

All of the data presented in Dr. Tishler's slides were from pre-clinical studies. Most studies are based on rats. There are no adequate clinical trials yet. As he notes, we strongly discourage the application of these compounds to Humans until such studies are completed.

Terpenes

Dr. Tishler goes on to list many types of terpenoids found in cannabis, their potential therapeutic properties, and the studies associated with these claims.  He again clearly labels human data and key studies.  We recommend watching the Youtube recording to get all available study information for further research.
