Much has been said publicly about using cannabis or cannabinoids to treat substance use disorders, but much of this discussion has been based on informal patient self-report. There are ample data to support use of cannabinoids for treatment of pain or other illness that can lead to or co-occur with substance misuse, but less about use of those medicines for treatment of the actual substance misuse itself. This discussion will focus on available studies and clinical experience in treating substance use specifically.
