Cannabis for GI Disorders

Adam Abodeely MD, Association of Cannabinoid Specialists Board of Directors member and colorectal surgeon, talks about use of cannabinoids for various gastroenterologic illnesses.

Dr. Abodeely shares his journey with cannabis therapeutics, beginning in 2010, and its use in treating gastrointestinal (GI) conditions such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and irritable bowel syndrome. He highlights how cannabis has helped patients with cancer, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and GI motility disorders. Dr. Abodeely explains the involvement of the endocannabinoid system in maintaining GI homeostasis and its impact on GI conditions and diseases. He elaborates on how cannabinoids reduce inflammation, control pain, regulate GI motility, and assist with acid secretion and fluid secretion in the intestines.

Despite the need for further research, Dr. Abodeely's clinical findings and historical usage of cannabis for GI issues suggest its promising therapeutic potential.
